Isla Magdalena is a breeding location for penguins, including king penguins (the largest ones) in the summer months (November – March). The colony of penguins counts tens of thousands of the bird pairs in December and January. The population is not so large in March but it is still worth to visit the island. The starting point is a port in Punta Arenas. It takes almost 2 hours to get to the island.

It takes one hour of visiting the island. There are special walking platforms to around the island. The visitors are allowed to walk on the platforms only. Penguins are not shy and many of them have nests next to the platforms. Birds can be watched and photographed with very close distance.
I paid 55,000 CLP ($75) for half-day excursion. The tickets are sold in the port or in an office of comapa tourist agency https://comapa.com/inicio. Despite the high price, I recommend a half-day trip.
