Amman is a perfect transport hub to explore the north of Amman. It is easy to get a bus to many attractions located in this part of Jordan. You should plan your day to get in return bus at 4 pm The public transport is very limited in the evening.
We got up at 7 am and had breakfast. We traveled to North Bus Station (3JD) by taxi and caught shuttle bus to Jerash (1 JD per person) The trip was not long, about 1.5 hours. The entrance to the ancient ruins is included in Jordan Pass. The complex is huge and you can find there ruins form various eras. You need ca 2-3 hours to visit the complex. My favorite items:
- North & South Gates
- Temple of Artemis
- Mosaics on the floor of the Byzantine church ruins
- Better-preserved columns
The ancient complex is on the list of UNESCO world heritage sites and it should be on your must list.
We took a taxi to Ajloun Castle (2JD). Distance view on Ajloun Castle is fantastic. It is located on the hill and surrounded by olive trees. The ticket to the site is included in Jodran Pass. Inside we visited the castle. Rooms are empty and towers are not well preserved.
We are going back to Amman at 3 pm The shuttle bus to the capitol city cost 1.2 JD and taxi from North Bus station to downtown – 3JD.
How to organize a trip to Jerash and Ajloun castle?
- public transport is the best option for 2 people
- 3-4 people may take a taxi. It costs 20-25 JD.
- local package tour is the best option for single traveler. You can arrange it in the hotel. It costs 10-15 JD
