CAIRO & GIZA – JOURNEY TO THE HEART OF ANCIENT EGYPT
A trip to Cairo and Giza is both an endurance test and an unforgettable history lesson. Departing from Hurghada at 3:30 AM, after a 7+ hour journey across the Egyptian desert, we reached vibrant Cairo – Africa’s largest city, home to over 20 million people.
The Egyptian Museum – Treasure Trove of Antiquities
Our first stop was the legendary Egyptian Museum, housing over 120,000 artifacts. As often happens with organized tours, our visit felt like a marathon. In just one hour, our guide raced through the highlights, including Tutankhamun’s famous golden mask (11kg of pure gold!) and royal mummies. Fun fact: The museum was founded in 1835, with its current Tahrir Square building opening in 1902.

Giza – The Pharaohs’ Monumental Legacy
The true reward for our journey was Giza’s pyramid complex. Built around 2560 BCE, these are the only surviving wonders of the ancient world. The Great Pyramid alone contains about 2.3 million stone blocks, each averaging 2.5 tons! Key highlights:
- The Sphinx stretches 73m long and stands 20m tall
- Chephren’s Pyramid retains part of its original limestone casing at the peak
- Mykerinos’ Pyramid (which we entered) is the smallest but most refined
- The entire complex was originally painted in vibrant colors
