On our last day in Luang Prabang, we dedicated our time to visiting the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls, located about 30 km south of the city. This is one of the most beautiful natural attractions in Laos—turquoise cascades surrounded by lush rainforest create an unforgettable sight.

How to Get to Kuang Si Waterfalls?

There are several ways to reach the waterfalls:

  1. Renting a motorbike (approx. 150,000–250,000 LAK)
  • Pros: Complete freedom, the ability to stop along the way.
  • Cons: In 2025, the road was under construction—bumpy, sandy, and at times very dangerous. Ride carefully to avoid skidding.
  1. Shuttle bus (approx. 100,000 LAK per person)
  • Pros: Comfortable and faster transportation.
  • Cons: Limited visiting time (approx. 2–2.5 hours), which may not be enough if you want to swim and explore at a relaxed pace.
  1. Hiring a tuk-tuk (the most expensive option)
  • A great solution for groups—the driver will take you there and pick you up at an agreed time.

Kuang Si Waterfalls – What You Should Know

  • Entrance fee: In 2025, it cost 60,000 LAK.
  • Three levels of waterfalls:
  • Top level – The least spectacular, accessible via a steep path.
  • Middle level – The most beautiful, with wide cascades and natural pools. Spend most of your time here!
  • Lower level – Shallow, calm pools, perfect for relaxation.
  • Viewpoint platform (30,000 LAK) – NOT RECOMMENDED! The view is mostly of the forest, with barely any sight of the waterfalls.

Is Swimming Worth It?

Absolutely YES! The water is crystal clear, and tiny fish will give you a free foot spa treatment (natural exfoliation!). The pools are safe, and swimming among the cascades is an incredible experience. We spent 4 hours there and went for a swim three times!
