Brasov is one of the biggest city in Transylvania. It was a regional capitol of Burzenland – region settled by people of German ethnicity. I recommend walking around old city without navigation or map. The most famous site is black church, built in 14th century. During the great fire walls of the church got dark in the 17th century. The church is impressive outside but it is disappointing inside. The entrance fee is 15 lei and it is not worth to go inside.
Brasov is a starting point for a day hike in the mountains. On the outskirts of the city, there is a trail to the top of Piatra Mare (1844 m above sea level). The attraction of trekking is 7 Stairs Canyon (7 Ladders Canyon). It is located about 30 minutes from the start point of the trail and will provide an unforgettable experience ( 10 lei). It is an exciting climbing with ropes and almost vertical ladders, crossing bridges just over the abyss, etc. There are seven attractions of this type to be completed, as the name suggests. The longest ladder is 15 meters and it is attached to a vertical rock. The canyon provides not only adrenaline, but also beautiful views. After passing the canyon, there is a steep climb to the top of Piatra Mare. There is a nice panoramic view from the top of the mountain. I highly recommend a 1-day trek to Piatra Mare and 7 stairs canyon.
